“When John joined the ACLU, our bank relations were strained and it was difficult to get the services we needed. Because he’s well versed in all elements of banking, John knew exactly who to contact and collaborate with. John used his expertise and professionalism to make sure all of our banking needs were met in a timely and efficient manner.”

– Henry Armbruster, former Controller, American Civil Liberties Union

Impacting Nonprofits is a new company dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations thrive through financial expertise. Its founder, John Citti, is a finance executive, with 30 years of experience working for nonprofit organizations, small for-profit companies, and global Fortune 500 corporations. Some of John’s major contributions include: building accounting systems that improve resource allocation decisions, implementing budget processes that keep companies on track to meet their goals, and negotiating lines of credit to cover donation shortfalls. He has also succeeded in protecting investment assets, improving retirement plans, and restructuring fixed-income portfolios.

While leading the treasury function for the ACLU, John increased revenue by over $4 million by improving cash management processes and liquidity. As a finance veteran, John can help organizations identify, develop, and implement highly efficient and effective financial and operational systems that reduce expenses and increase revenue.

About 5 years ago, while working full-time, John started volunteering for Cohere, a small nonprofit which helps refugees in developing countries. He found it immensely gratifying to know that by establishing efficient financial systems for accurate reporting and budgets, he played an important role in giving Malaysian and Ugandan refugees the tools they need to build productive, healthy and independent lives.

It was this experience that inspired John to launch Impacting Nonprofits – so he can focus his energy on the nonprofit sector – and support organizations that impact economic development, migration, and education, among other issues. John is excited to offer actionable financial reporting, streamlined operations and prudent investing to suit the unique needs of each client. By creating Impacting Nonprofits, John is able serve economically disadvantaged and vulnerable communities across the United States and around the world.

John Citti is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Treasury Professional with a graduate degree in international business from Arizona State University's Thunderbird School of Global Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin & Marshall College.

In addition to volunteering for Cohere, John speaks to students attending Dickinson High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, about opportunities to pursue careers in finance and accounting. In his spare time, John enjoys traveling and biking with his family. He is also working hard to master Mandarin.
